Mallorca Photo Trip 2019

We spent a few days on Mallorca with Jan’s sister Lynne and husband Peter in May 2019, based in the Port of Pollensa.

Saturday 4th May 2019 Travel to Mallorca

Jan drove us to East Midlands Airport where it was just a short walk from the long stay car park to check in with Jet2. Then we flew to Palma Mallorca where we were met by Lynne and Peter who took us to dinner at one of their favourite fish restaurants in Palma. Peter then drove us to their villa in the Port of Pollensa.

Sunday 5th May 2019

Peter and I walked up to Puig De Maria Monastery from Pollensa, about 3 miles in total, while Lynne and Jan walked around the town of Pollensa. The weather is good for walking, around 20°C with a cool breeze. Good views from the monastery at the top. We sat drinking a beer and passed the time with another Peter (from Hebden Bridge) who was in Mallorca for the bird watching.

After a slow walk down because my foot was hurting we had a wander around Pollensa. It was really busy with the Sunday market.

After a late lunch we headed out to the local nature reserve of Albufereta, near Alcudia, just a short drive from Port of Pollensa. Even though it was late afternoon there were lots of birds. The first was a Black Winged Stilt, then followed Little Egret, Corn Bunting, Shelduck, sandpiper, Ringed Plover and lots more. I thought I saw an Egyptian Vulture with it’s black and white wings but it dropped out of sight before I could confirm it.

If you would like a black and white print as a memento of your trip, all of the black and white images are available. They were taken with a Mamiya 7 camera on Ilford 120 film and are available as high quality hand made darkroom prints in a range of sizes from 40x30cm to 70x70cm (size refers to mount and frame, image is a few cm smaller).

They all have a 6 digit number at the end of the title to uniquely identify the negative to help ordering – just type this number into the search box in the World Landscapes Gallery and it will show the image and ordering information. Not all images are included so if you can’t find the ones that interest you just send me an email using the Contact page form on this website and we’ll sort out the details between us.

Monday 6th May 2019

Today we headed over to Soller from our base in the Port of Pollensa.

First we visited the Gardens of Alfabia. Lots to see on this old estate. Lots of orange and lemon trees too. We had very tasty fresh orange juice here as well.

Then it was on to the Port of Soller. A light lunch of Tapas and beer was followed by a wander around the harbour taking photos.

Lastly we ended the day with a very tasty dinner in the Port of Pollensa.

Tuesday 7th May 2019

Today we walked from the Port of Pollensa to the pretty bay of Cala Sant Vicenc.  The trail was unmarked except for a hand scrawled sign, nothing official anywhere on the entire route. Very rough track in places but good from the Col de Siller down to the village.

It was about 5 miles one way and took a bit over 1.5 hours in a temperature of 21°C in the shade, not a lot of shade though! We stopped for a light lunch and a beer or two at the bar on the bay in Cala Sant Vicenc.

We flew home with Jet2 from Palma to East Midlands Airport, Wednesday 8th May. Over the 3 days I took 46 photos on my Mamiya 7 camera, all on Ilford 400 Delta 120 film (10 shots per roll).
